The Confucius Institute at the University of Minnesota welcomes students of all ages. All that is required is a desire to learn more about Chinese language and culture. If that describes you, then you aren't alone. Find out why so many people study Chinese.
The Confucius Institute at the University of Minnesota was created to promote the study of Chinese language and culture throughout Minnesota. One way it does this is by offering a variety of classes to the public—such as Family Chinese, Beginning Chinese for Adults, and Kung Fu. Learn more about Confucius Institute classes.
The Confucius Institute sponsors a lecture series on topics of Chinese arts and culture. These monthly events are free and open to the public. Learn more about upcomming and past lectures in this series.
The "Confucius Institute Scholarship" was established and administered by Confucius Institute Headquarters, with the goal of encouraging students and teachers worldwide, who are studying and/or teaching Chinese as a second language, to study Chinese language and culture in China. The Confucius Institute Online has online language and culture instruction as well as games, songs, and video from the Grand Forum.
The Confucius Institute at the University of Minnesota offers HSK testing to those interested in having their Mandarin Chinese proficiency measured. Learn more about HSK testing at CIUMN.
The resource center opened on January 31, 2009 and materials are now available for check-out! The collection includes many Chinese language textbooks and supplementary materials including workbooks, CDs, software and flashcards. There is also a selection of Chinese films, television programs and serials. Additionally, there aremany bilingual books about Chinese culture, including topics such as Chinese cities, cooking, literature, travel and philosophy.

The Confucius Institute Resource Library is not open on University of Minnesota holidays.
Borrowers can set up an account using their driver’s license or State ID.
Borrowers may check out five items at a time.
Materials can be returned during library hours or during University of Minnesota Confucius Institute business hours (M-F 8:00 – 4:30)
The borrowing period is four weeks. Late fees accrue at $.50 per day.
